4th Annual Leadership Symposium Accra Ghana

19th November 2014 @ 8:00 am - 21st November 2014 @ 5:00 pm

From the 19th till 21st November 2014, we gathered in Accra, Ghana to make personal commitments for 2015.

Participants came from all over the world, including Ghana, Cameroun, Nigeria, South Africa, Guinea, UK, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Spain, Ethiopia, Mauritius to name a few, and we were inspired to see so many friends of Africa and emerging African leaders together in one room, working collaboratively across sectors and nationalities.

The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 508 registered participants.
  • 40 nationalities, from all over the world, represented.
  • 10 international media houses represented present and coverage by CNN, Bloomberg TV, CNBC and a mention on Big Brother Africa reaching 50 million people.
  • Equitable representation of men and women with 47% female participants
  • 34000 people reached on facebook
  • 291 Africa 2.0 tweets, 162 retweets and 83 favourites
  • 210 business partnership opportunities initiated
  • Corporate attendance, to name a few: NEPAD Council, Microsoft, Chevron, Stanbic, Iberia, Vodaphone Ghana, Harvard Capital Ventrures, Google, USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, General Electric, Coca Cola, IBM, DHL, Afrexim Bank, Africa Finance Corporation, Bollore Africa Logistics, Ashoka, Ecobank, Sahara Energy, Dangote Group, Mo Ibrahim Foundation, IFC and World Bank.

We focused on execution, with workshops and breakout sessions where participants made commitments to action in 2015. We had workshops, breakout sessions and many inspiring speakers, including surprise guests such as HE Olusegun Obasanjo, HE Jerry Rawlings and Minister Anatole CollinetMakosso of Congo. However the stars of the show were the many members of the Africa 2.0 community who shared their stories of passion, perseverance and focus. Meeting at a time when much of West Africa was being ostracized due to the Ebola outbreak. Despite the challenges faced, this conference was an example of what is possible when we come together around a common purpose: to push forward the transformation of Africa. For Africa, by Africans.
